Stay in Contact

For your convenience, SBC Yahoo! Dial gives you two different email options. You can use either or both of them to communicate online.
  • SBC Yahoo! Mail
This web-based email account lets you access your email from any web-connected computer in the world. You'll read and compose mail in your Internet browser, and all your mail (up to 2GB for main accounts and sub accounts) will be stored online.

  • To sign in to SBC Yahoo! Mail, visit http://mail.yahoo.com. For more information, visit http://help.sbcglobal.net/article.php?item=122.

  • Client-based email (POP/SMTP)
This type of email downloads mail to your computer's hard drive and is great for storing large amounts of mail. To use it, you'll need an email client program like Microsoft Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape, etc. for reading and composing your messages.

  • Once connected to the Internet, launch your client email by double-clicking its desktop icon. You should be automatically signed in and ready to send and receive email. If this does not happen, you'll need to check your email settings.

Learn more about the differences between SBC Yahoo! Mail and client-based email at the SBC Yahoo! Help site.
SMTP, POP, & mail server settings
If you use client mail and are having trouble sending or receiving email, one possible explanation is incorrect settings. When you set up your mail program, you have to enter the server information to tell it where to retrieve your mail. Here is the SBC Yahoo! Dial server information.
  • Your Email Address: MemberID@sbcglobal.net
  • Incoming (POP): pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com
  • Outgoing (SMTP): smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com (SMTP authentication required*)
  • Incoming mail server: POP3
  • Incoming mail port #: 110
  • Outgoing mail port #: 25

* You should find the authentication check box in the outgoing mail section of your account set-up. For specific instructions, refer to the help section of your email client. Please Note: If your email client does not support SMTP authentication, you won't be able to send client email from your SBC Yahoo! Dial account.

Other Communication Tools

In addition to email options, you've got several other features to help you communicate efficiently online. Here are just a couple.

Your SBC Yahoo! Messenger is built in to your browser so you can quickly get a hold of important contacts from anywhere on the Web - there's no need to minimize a window or change your view. Just click a name and start chatting. Plus there's a special function that lets you co-browse web sites while you chat - great for walking someone through a site when you're in different locations.

In SBC Yahoo! Mail, you've got your address book to store all your important email addresses and contact information. And you can also create small distribution lists for contacting a group with one click. It's a whole lot easier than cutting and pasting addresses.
