ENHANCED COMMUNICATIONS
Enhanced Communications
Communicate online with one or both of the following email options.
SBC Yahoo! Mail: This web-based account lets you access email from any web-connected computer, and all your mail (up to 25MB for main accounts and 10MB for sub accounts) will be stored online. To sign in to SBC Yahoo! Mail, visit http://mail.yahoo.com. For more information, visit http://help.sbcglobal.net/article.php?item=122.
Client-based email (POP/SMTP): This type of email uses an email client program like Microsoft Outlook Express and downloads mail to your computer's hard drive. Launch your client program by double-clicking its desktop icon. You should be automatically signed in and ready to email. If not, see the information below.
Learn more about the differences between SBC Yahoo! Mail and client-based email at the SBC Yahoo! Help site.
SMTP, POP, & Mail Server Settings
If you use client mail and are having trouble sending or receiving email, the problem could be incorrect settings. In this case, you need to enter server information to tell your program where to retrieve your mail. Here's the SBC Yahoo! DSL server information.
* You should find the authentication check box in the outgoing mail section of your account set-up. For specific instructions, refer to the help section of your email client. Please Note: If your email client does not support STMP authentication, you won't be able to send client email from your SBC Yahoo! DSL account.
How to set up an additional mailbox in Outlook Express: If you created an SBC Yahoo! DSL sub account and want to receive email for that account in Outlook Express, you can add a new email account to your existing profile. For instructions, visit http://help.sbcglobal.net/article.php?item=308
NOTE: Due to the manner in which certain antivirus and firewall applications protect your computer, the SBC Yahoo! DSL installation setup program may not be able to fully configure Outlook Express for use with SBC Yahoo! email. If you encounter a problem when attempting to send or receive email after this setup process is complete, please see our Corrupted Email Settings article.
Blocking Spam
AddressGuard™: Create disposable email addresses to use whenever you do not want to give your real SBC Yahoo! email address. This service is included in your membership.
Bulk Mail Folder: The filtering system known as SpamGuard is intended to radically reduce the amount of spam you receive in your inbox by directing most bulk messages to your Bulk Mail Folder. For more information, visit http://help.sbcglobal.net/article.php?item=364
