Troubleshooting Check List

If you are having trouble connecting to the Internet:
Check that you're installing your DSL equipment after the "Service Completion Date" given when you ordered SBC Yahoo! DSL.
Check to ensure that the gray data cable is plugged into the “DSL/HPN” port on your DSL line filter and that the “Ethernet” light on the front of the modem is green.
A DSL line filter is required on every device that shares your DSL number.

NOTE: A filter may be required on the following devices as well: home security system, health alarm, water meter monitor, etc. Check with your monitoring service or call 1-877-SBC-DSL5 to determine if a special filter is required.

Check that your DSL modem is correctly connected to your computer.
If you are unable to connect, please double-click the SBC Self Support Tool icon (or SBC Connection Manager icon, if installed) to troubleshoot.
Turn off the modem, reboot the computer and then turn the modem back on again.
If the installation program is still running, follow these steps: Quit the installation program. Take the CD out, put it back in and try running the installation program again.

Connection failed. What should I do?
If you are unable to connect, please double-click the SBC Self Support Tool icon (or SBC Connection Manager icon, if installed) to troubleshoot.

Every time I try to browse a web page, I get a message stating "Detecting Proxy Settings." How can I get rid of that?
Run the Internet Connection Wizard: From the Start menu, select Program Files > Accessories > Communications, then select "Internet Connection Wizard." When prompted to enter proxy settings, don't select anything.

Why do I need to leave my modem on for 10 days after the installation?
During this time, our network communicates with your modem to maximize your connection speed. This 10-day process begins when your DSL installation is complete. Your SBC Yahoo! DSL Internet service will not be affected.
